Concrete Plant Supervisor – Gateshead
Full-time | Gateshead | Reporting to the General Manager
After 26 years with Hunter Readymixed Concrete, our Gateshead plant supervisor is finishing up at Christmas. In a business marking its 30th year, that’s a career covering almost our entire history, and it leaves big boots to fill.
We’re not expecting anyone to fill them on day one. The successful applicant will work alongside him through a handover period, learning the plant, the crew and the customers from someone who knows them better than anyone.
Gateshead has poured a record 1,680m³ in a single day. It’s a role for someone who wants to run a busy plant well and make it their own.
About the role
As Concrete Plant Supervisor, you’ll run the day-to-day operation at Gateshead, reporting directly to the General Manager. You’ll keep production running safely and efficiently, look after the plant and the people who work it, and make sure our customers get the concrete they need, when they need it.
What you’ll be responsible for
Production
- Producing concrete in accordance with AS 1379
- Batching, distributing and allocating orders to keep the trucks moving
- Monitoring incoming raw materials
- Maintaining the plant’s quality system through internal and external audits
- Measuring key inputs and outputs and using the results to improve how the plant runs
- Minimising rework and waste
People
- Leading plant staff and drivers day to day
- Scheduling work to make the best use of the crew
- Managing contractors on site
Safety and environment
- Maintaining a safe system of work and complying with all relevant safety, health and environment legislation
- Completing monthly plant inspections and reporting incidents, hazards and near misses promptly
- Taking an active role in Safety Team meetings
- Managing environmental controls, including fresh water use, waste, first flush and dust
Customers
- Regular contact with customers, keeping across work in progress and upcoming jobs
- Working with Account Managers on pricing, supply and customer needs
- Resolving supply or product issues quickly when they come up
- Monitoring work in progress and upcoming contracts
- Supporting customer credit control with Administration and Account Managers
Plant and budget
- Keeping fixed plant and mobile equipment reliable and well presented, in line with the Plant Maintenance Program
- Working closely with the Workshop Manager
- Managing repairs and maintenance, overtime and purchasing within budget
- Keeping paperwork, banking and COD procedures in order
What you’ll bring
- Experience in concrete production or batching, including working to AS 1379
- Experience supervising plant staff and drivers day to day
- An understanding of quality systems and audit requirements
- A working knowledge of WHS and environmental obligations on a plant site
- The ability to manage costs, budgets and documentation
- Confidence working directly with customers
- Willingness to travel to other HRMC plants from time to time
